My kids have always been creative but today was at a whole NEW level…
All without prompting (actually I’ve never even shown them how to do half of this stuff or done it myself) they’ve built a fire pit from mud and bricks, made decorations to hang on our monkey puzzle tree with twigs and wool, made hot chocolate by melting chocolate chips and orange peel over hot water in a bowl and stewed oranges, apples and carrots in boiling water to make a kind of fruit juice… all this happened outside without my knowledge (I thought they were just cleaning out their play house!)
Honestly my first reaction to this kind of creative thinking and energy is often frustration at the pure inconvenience of the ‘mess’, quickly followed by an overwhelmed feeling as I try to get my mind around what’s happening in my home…
But NOT today, today I’m just so proud of these kids!
There’s just something about creativity that emanates life and colour and encapsulates the very presence of the CREATOR himself.
When our children create they are taking on the nature of their Father in heaven.
They are moving in their divine nature and us the parents?? We get to behold the Spirit of God moving right in front of us!
Often all it takes to unleash creativity in our children is to simply MOVE out of the way, to HOLD our tongue, to let them ALONE, to give them some space and FREEDOM and to allow them the permission to RUN with their ideas.
THEY themselves will break the boxes we’ve put them in, they themselves will exceed even our greatest expectations of what they can do or achieve.
Deep within each of our children there lies a creative fountain, a well, a source of innovation all we need do is stop blocking it up!!
A whole world of possibility opens up to our children when begin to say YES instead of no, later, not now, you can’t and so on.
When we say yes that’s when they start to believe they have something they can give, something unique to offer, they discover their own unique talents and gifts and they learn to play their own unique part.
I’m interested what if anything stops YOU allowing your kids to freely create?
